Tranquility

About This Work

I set up at the canyon rim as the sun dropped below the horizon, aiming down into the cliffs and deep valleys that stretched out in front of me. The last light raked low across the rock, pulling long shadows out of every ridge and ravine, and the sky opened into a slow wash of orange, pink, purple and blue. For a few minutes everything went completely still. No wind, no sound, just that enormous quiet that settles over the desert at the end of the day. I held the frame vertical to follow the drop of the canyon and keep that towering, layered depth, the feeling of standing at the edge of something vast and being perfectly at peace with it. That stillness is what gave the piece its name.
